As if I didn’t have enough things going on in my life, I agreed to do one more thing. Why? Because I believe that there is an unhealthy amount of misinformation circulating in the general population that people end up basing their decisions upon. And I feel I have a moral obligation to help offer one more perspective on an issue that I am passionate about – AGRICULTURE.
I’m not an expert. But, as a mother, wife, consumer and farmer, I feel it is extremely important to have good information so that I can make informed decisions ranging from the foods I eat, to the people I vote for, to the commodities I grow.
I’m also the type of person who doesn’t take things at face value. In other words, my information is not based on media sound bites. I like to research the issues, read what and when I can, and I like to ask questions of people who know more than me. I want to know that the food I eat and prepare for my family is safe and nutritious. I also want to know what technological advances are occurring to keep my food safe and that those same advances include research to protect my family against disease and find cures for existing diseases.
I’m looking forward to friendly dialogues and blogging on issues related to agriculture, and food quality and safety. Until then, keep eating…

I totally agree with Karri that we need to be informed consumers……especially about the country of origin of our food. American farmers are faced with higher production, shipping, and labor costs than growers in developing countries like Mexico and China. Food safety and food security means supporting and consuming American farm products whenever possible.
This is a great site for exchange of ideas and I look forward to participating as often as I can!
