Good suggestions for the extras. I know that our local food pantry (part of the Austin Food Bank) accepts produce from farmers, too. We take our extra beef to the food pantry once a month and it is always received with open arms.

For what it's worth, if you're in an area with an active "freecycle.org" site, as I am, you could try posting an offer of excess food to the site.

I belonged to a CSA when I lived in Illinois, and it was a lot of fun.I'd like to try it again, and think one reason that it would be OK, even with a schedule full of evening activities that make it hard to cook, is that we have a large freezer. You can freeze so many vegetables and have them for winter meals, extending the benefits of your CSA membership.
