I am the 43-year old mother of two elementary school age boys and am also proud to declare myself a rancher and Texan (all by choice). We raise Red Angus and Black Angus cattle and sell pasture-raised natural Angus beef. I believe in stewardship of the land, plants and animals in my care and in the judicious and ethical use of technology.

Chocboyz2 I’m the wife of a former organic restauranteur and the mother of two rock ‘em sock ‘em little boys who (sadly) only seem to eat processed foods. We are BIG TIME foodies – please come to dinner ANYtime. I subscribe to Gourmet, Food and Wine, Cook’s and Fine Cooking, so there’s something new on the table every night! We grow a GIANT cook’s garden BUT find it hard to go totally organic. Anyway, I’m on the blog as a mom, a gardener and as someone who just likes good eats!

lisa-in-cotton2 I’m someone who cares a great deal about policies and issues that affect agriculture. The first 18 years of my life were spent on our small family farm in the southeast Missouri region known as the “Bootheel” because of the region’s resemblance on a map to the heel of a boot. The land is rich and was created out of the swampland of the Mississippi Delta. I no longer live on the farm, but do retain ownership with other family members. Today my actual agricultural experience comes from the work I do with companies, trade associations and individuals who also have ties to agriculture. My contributions to this blog stem from my interest in current issues, and from the perspective of one who comes from a rural background and has a great appreciation and respect for the work of farmers. I may bring views that aren’t popular, but I hope that we’ll be able to engage in a discussion that allows for different opinions.

fair-small-grayscale.jpg I color, draw, translate science into a language consumers understand for a living & make a mean mac-n-cheese. I believe in things like National Corndog Day, that Amarillo, Texas, has colors in their sunsets that Crayola could never define & that my two finest purchases to-date are a pair of Mexican patchwork boots & a Kincaid’s hamburger.
